About my relationship with the english language

My relationship with the language started early on my life, i might be mistaken but i remember that it was even before it was an assignment on my first school. It started when i was around 7-8 years old, right when i was starting to get very fond of videogame and internet culture, so i kind of needed to force my self to understand the language. Of course that at first it was just a few words, enough to get myself a general picture of what was going on in the game, and what where the things i was surfing through the internet.

Megaman X was one of the first games in wish i tried to get the grasp of the history in english.

As i said before, i dont really remember when i started having english as an mandatory assignment on school, but i have this kind of "mental picture"  of myself, on 4th grade, asking some words to my english teacher, some of which where really simple as a matter of fact (at least i remember it that way), and she couldn't get the grasp of it. So i never really cared too much for what i was being teached at school, i was more interested in learning it on a more "casual" o "informal" way, more as a way to understand to communicate with not all the "rules" associated with the formal language. Of course, i don´t really mean to sound too cocky, school really helped to get the grasp of more complicated and elaborated words. And even though i dont remember all the formality associated with it, i really apreciate learning about verb conjugation, as it made things easier to write, and to read. Nonetheles this started happening when i was at high school.

The moment in which i really started to get used to write in english and started using it in a more daily basis was around 2006 when the US Dollar hit rock bottom. No, im joking, it wasn´t really the cause, but around that time 1 USD was around 400-450 Chilean Pesos, and i always wanted to shop my videogames online and overseas. So, well, it started to get very cheap and easy to get my game through the internet and i had to write emails, ask questions, make sure that no one was going to scam me through the web and that was when i started to get very confident about my use of the language.

Another moment worth mentioning is that around 2015, we went on vacations with my family (we are a family of 4) and we went to Jamaica. So the thing was that my older folks didn´t really manage the language, and my brother and i had to translate and speak in english with the locals. It was a nice experience. And overall it helped us practice the language.
